Bowen was founded in 1994, early in the Asian growth story. Participating in the progress of the region for our investors has yielded them superior returns for over a decade. Our investment style is predominantly long-only and is focused on the long-term growth of globally competitive businesses based, as we are, in Asian markets.
If one had invested in the MSCI AC Asia Pacific Index on 1st Jan 1995, the total nominal return would be just +15% (as of 29th April 2011). If one had invested in Bowen’s first and oldest fund, the Bowen Asia Fund (formerly the Stewart Asia Fund), investors would have been up 176%. Studies have shown very little correlation between GDP growth and stock market returns over the long-run, and investors looking to profit from the Asian growth story should look to invest in high quality stocks as opposed to tracking market indices — which is the Bowen investment philosophy.
We believe that by being based in Asia, we are better able to keep abreast of the rapid changes and trends in the region. Our investment focus is directed towards three main regions: China, India and North Asia (Japan, Korea and Taiwan). We are based in Hong Kong, from where we have easy access to the countries above and others; and we also have research support on the ground in both India and Japan.
Bowen Asia Ltd. is a private company, fully owned and managed by its partners. We are a Hong Kong-registered company, authorized by the Securities and Futures Commission to carry out asset management and to advise on securities.
